BigXthaPlug is opening up about his young son Amar's autism for the first time during Autism Awareness Month.
âTo me, autism is a journey,â the Dallas rapper said in his new PSA that aired on Friday, April 25. "The reason I say that it is a journey is because I have a six-year-old son who has autism. Thereâs nothing wrong with him. Heâs a perfectly good child. My journey as far as me having to be gone, be able to make funds for my child and him having autism, so the journey is not an easy journey. You canât make it a hard journey, because if you make the process hard, itâll all be hard.â
"The Largest" rapper comes to Amar's defense as part of Autism Society of Americaâs "Autism Is" campaign for Autism Acceptance Month. According to a press release, the campaign is "an initiative that amplifies real stories from across the autism community to promote greater understanding, inclusion, and acceptance of the diversity across the spectrum."
âAs a dad to an autistic son, Iâve seen the importance of being understood for who you truly are," BigX added in a statement about the campaign. "This is personal for meâitâs about sharing our journey, showing up for my son, and breaking down the walls around autism. Itâs about being real, spreading awareness, and making sure no one feels alone in this.â
BigXthaPlug's advocacy for the autism community comes as the Trump Administration and its Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. plan to launch âa massive testing and researchâ initiative to pinpoint the cause of the disorder. Kennedy recently drew ire from the nation after he made disparaging comments about autistic children. BigXthaPlug plans to fight the stigma and stereotypes that plague the autistic community by using his platform to stand up for those who live with the spectrum disorder.
In addition to his mission in the autism community, BigXthaPlug is also making major moves in the music industry. The 26-year-old artist recently debuted his rap-country song with Bailey Zimmerman called "All The Way." If you haven't already, watch the music video for his latest single below.
